Terms of Service
Last updated: 23 May 2026
These terms govern your use of MateMap. By creating an account or using MateMap you agree to them. Please read them carefully.
1. About MateMap
MateMap is a platform that helps people discover and organise sports and social activities with others nearby.
MateMap does not host, run, supervise or endorse any activity. We are not an organiser of, and not a party to, any meet-up arranged through the app. Activities are arranged between users.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use MateMap.
You must provide true and accurate information when you register, keep it up to date, and hold only one account.
You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account.
3. Your declaration
When you create an account you confirm and agree to the declaration shown at sign-up, including that you take part in activities at your own risk. That declaration forms part of these terms.
4. Acceptable use
Treat other users with respect. Do not harass, discriminate against, threaten or behave violently towards anyone.
Obey all applicable laws and the rules of any venue you use.
Do not use MateMap for any unlawful purpose, commercial promotion, soliciting, fraud, spam or other misuse.
Do not impersonate others or post false, misleading or harmful content.
5. Activities and safety
Physical activity and meeting other people in person carry real risks. You take part in activities at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety and decisions.
MateMap does not perform background checks and does not verify the identity, conduct, health or skill of any user.
You are responsible for confirming you are fit to take part, for arranging your own personal insurance, and for not bringing anyone under 18 to an activity arranged through MateMap.
6. Your content
You are responsible for the content you post, including your profile, photos, activity listings, ratings, feedback, group content and messages.
You grant MateMap a non-exclusive licence to host and display that content for the purpose of operating the service.
We may remove content or limit features that breach these terms or put other users at risk.
7. Paid events, payments and refunds
Hosts may set a price to join an event. When you join a paid event, payment is collected at the time you join through our payment provider (Stripe). The full price plus any applicable fees is charged to your payment method.
MateMap collects the payment on behalf of the host. Funds are held by the platform after collection and released to the host after the event has concluded and the post-event feedback window has closed. This hold gives participants a chance to flag issues before the host is paid.
If a host cancels an event, or you cancel before the event in line with the event's stated cancellation rules, the amount you paid will be refunded to your original payment method. Refunds are processed through Stripe and may take several business days to appear depending on your bank.
If you believe an event was significantly different from what was advertised, or did not take place, raise the issue through the in-app feedback or support ticket before the feedback window closes so we can review it before the host is paid.
You are responsible for any taxes that apply to payments you make or receive through MateMap. Hosts are responsible for declaring income they receive through the platform.
8. Points and rewards
MateMap awards in-app points for activity such as hosting and joining events that conclude successfully, and for receiving good ratings.
Points are an in-app reputation signal only. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred to another user.
We may change how points are earned, displayed, used or reset at any time, including to prevent abuse.
9. Ratings and feedback
After an event concludes, participants may rate the event and host and leave written feedback within the feedback window shown in the app.
Ratings and feedback are used to inform other users, to operate the points and payouts system, and to help us moderate the service.
Feedback must be honest, relate to the actual event, and follow the acceptable use rules. We may remove ratings or feedback that breach these terms.
10. Mates, groups and messaging
You can send mate requests, join groups, and exchange messages with other users one-to-one or in a group. Other users can do the same with you.
Messages, group content and shared event invitations are stored so we can deliver them to the intended recipients and so that conversations can be revisited.
Do not use messaging or groups to send unwanted contact, spam, scams, sexual content, or other content that breaches the acceptable use rules. You can block other users and leave groups at any time.
11. Notifications and support
We send in-app notifications about activity that affects you, such as event updates, mate requests, group activity and payments. You can manage notification preferences in the app.
You can contact us through the in-app support tickets (help, bug report or idea). Tickets and any replies are stored so we can respond and follow up.
12. Third-party services
MateMap relies on third-party services to operate, including Supabase for hosting, accounts and storage, Stripe for payments, Google Maps for location and map display, and Apple for native sign-in on iOS.
When you use these features, the relevant provider processes data needed to deliver their part of the service. Their own terms and policies apply to that processing, in addition to ours.
13. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or restrict your account if you breach these terms or behave in a way that puts others at risk. Restrictions may limit specific features (for example, hosting, joining, messaging, mate requests or groups) without closing the account.
You may stop using MateMap and request deletion of your account at any time.
14. Disclaimers and liability
MateMap is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that activities, venues or other users will meet your expectations.
To the extent permitted by law, MateMap is not liable for any personal injury, death, property loss, or dispute arising from activities or from contact with other users.
Nothing in these terms excludes rights or guarantees that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including the Australian Consumer Law.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes we will take reasonable steps to let you know. Continuing to use MateMap after a change means you accept the updated terms.
